Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse

Here's one of the best watercolor paintings to come out of my recent class at Visarts in Rockville, MD. It's the Bass Harbor Head lighthouse in Maine, part of Acadia National Park. I've only seen it in person from the water but all the good pictures on Google to work from were from the land so that's what I used here. The lighthouse turned out darker than I wanted since I smudged some of the dark red roof color and had to triage (much easier to fix in acrylic). No gauche in this one. The whitecaps are just thick white watercolor paint applied in globs.
